‘Taking too much sugar or sugary drinks does not cause diabetes’ – Nigerian Doctor Says
It is a well known fact that taking too much sugary things causes diabetes. People are being cautioned to reduce the intake of sugary things in order not to fall victim of diabetes.
However, a Nigerian doctor has taken to his twitter handle to oppose and enlighten more on diabetes. According to his tweet, taking in sugary things does not cause diabetes.
Read full tweet:
Been awhile I did a medical thread because mans finally grew tired of negative reactions, when they’re not even paying me
. Anyways lemme dispel a couple of myths about Diabetes (Jedi Jedi).
Will taking too much sugar or sugary drinks CAUSE me to have diabetes? Answer=NO
Answer is No but there’s a catch though, I’ll come back to that. Diabetes is basically high sugar level in the blood. Now there’s this beautiful hormone called Insulin. It’s work basically is to digest the sugar and convert it to energy we use to do stuff….
In some people however, they may have 2 types of ‘badluck’ . 1) Their bodies may not be producing enough insulin(most times this is hereditary, other times some surgery, radiation or whatever). 2)Their bodies are producing enough insulin but the body refuses to respond to it..
This means the sugar will still stay in the blood. Now if your insulin is intact&functioning,it should mop up whatever sugar or sugary drinks you take. But here’s the catch, in a country like Nigeria where our 1st prayer point is not to visit the hospital, how do we differentiate?
That’s why you should go for check ups from time to time, blood sugar tests costs highest #1000, normal value is between 70-125(mg/dl), if you have a parent or sibling who has it, you should really watch it. Untreated Diabetes can lead to Erectile Dysfunction (No more mekwe)..
…Stroke, kidney failure, loss of vision and the likes. Some have called my attention that jedi jedi(too much sugar) could cause pile too. The answer to this, is a flat NO
Lastly, whoever brought the notion that something bitter must be used to cure something sweet was fake deep. “Agbo” will not reduce your blood sugar level. Cheers
I may do a separate thread on Pile (haemorrhoids) tomorrow. I’d entertain questions on said topic by then
Please in summary for people who may find this difficult to understand.
Will taking sugar and sugary drinks CAUSE me to have Diabetes? Answer is NO
Will taking sugar and sugary drinks WORSEN diabetes I already have?
Answer is BIG YES!!
Unhealthy habits like lack of exercise can increase your RISK of having diabetes LMAO, unless you don’t want people to eat at all. This is directly from diabetes dot org dot uk clearly calling it a myth. I came prepared

, stop embarrassing yourselves.

Many things affect your risk for type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke like your age or your family history that you can’t change. But being aware of them can help you take smart steps to lower your risk.
1. Age
As you get older, your risk for type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke goes up. There’s nothing you can do about getting older, but you can take steps to eat healthy, stay active and manage your weight. And talk with your doctor about your cholesterol, blood pressure and blood glucose. Make sure yo
ur numbers are where they should be and, if they’re not, work with your doctor to set target numbers that are right for you.
2. Race
People of different racial and ethnic groups are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. African Americans, Mexican Americans, American Indians, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders and Asian Americans have a higher risk for these deadly diseases. This is partly because these populations are more likely to be overweight, have high blood pressure and have type 2 diabetes.
3. Gender
Whether you’re male or female also affects how likely you are to develop heart disease. Men are more likely to develop heart disease. But once a woman reaches menopause, her risk for heart disease goes up. But even then, women still aren’t as likely as men.
4. Family History
If your mother, father, sister, or brother has heart disease or diabetes, your risk goes up. If you don’t know your family history, ask. Ask your parents, aunts and uncles if anyone in your family has had type 2 diabetes, heart disease or stroke. Then tell your doctor what you learn so you can make a plan to lower your risk.

Profound effect of weight on diabetes
Very few people realize the profound effect that weight has on diabetes. Even instances of gestational diabetes are much greater in patients that are overweight than in those that are not. Type 2, or adult onset diabetes is more commonly found in overweight people than those that are within their ‘ideal’ weight ranges. In fact, almost 90% of those with Type 2 diabetes are overweight. If you are suffering from Type 2 diabetes, the best gift you could possibly give yourself just might be the gift of getting your weight under control.
Among those that suffer from Type 2 diabetes almost 40% have high blood pressure, which is another
condition that is believed to be exacerbated by excess weight. Being overweight might also lead to a condition known as insulin resistance in which the body no longer responds to the insulin that is needed to assist the body in using sugar and glucose as fuel on a cellular level.
There are some things you can do to help yourself out if you have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes or labeled at risk for this devastating condition. First of all, take off the pounds. I know this is much easier said than done. Dieting is never easy and rarely fun for the average person. However, if you do not begin to take drastic steps toward procuring the best possible health for yourself you may not be able to enjoy the quality of life you had planned for your golden years. Let your condition be your motivation and make plans to enjoy watching your grandchildren and great grandchildren graduate college.
Fight it standing up. Don’t sit down and let Diabetes control you. Stand up and take control of your body back. This is a fight to the finish and if you let it, diabetes will be your end. If you fight it standing up, lose the weight, get out there and exercise, listen to the doctor’s orders and follow them. Find the strength within you to battle this disease head on. You’ll be amazed at what happens when you decide to stand up and fight for your health.
Get active. Find activities that you enjoy and get out there and do them. Don’t make those activities passive activities either. Even if it’s just going out to play shuffleboard everyday get out there and play. Enjoy your time in the sun. Pick flowers with the little ones. Take up golf. Do whatever it takes to get up and moving each and every day in order to remember why you want to live forever in the first place.
Watch what you eat. Garbage in, garbage out, right? You have strict dietary requirements once you’ve been diagnosed with diabetes. This means that you absolutely must follow your dietary restrictions. Learn to live within those limits in order to live and enjoy life to the fullest you can. The amazing thing is that there are all kinds of foods available that are friendly to those with diabetes that weren’t around just a few short years ago. It is quite possible to live and eat quite nicely with diabetes if you stick to your plan. The most important thing about dieting with diabetes is that you never lose sight of how crucial it is to do so.

What is insulin and high blood glucose
About Insulin and High Blood Glucose
When you eat, your body breaks food down into glucose (sugar) and sends it into the bloodstream. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps move the glucose from the blood
into the cells to be used for energy. Your body usually makes just the right amount of insulin to match the food you eat.
When your body does not use insulin properly, it is called insulin resistance. At first, the beta cells make extra insulin to make up for it. But, over time your pancreas isn’t able to keep up and can’t make enough insulin to keep your blood glucose at normal levels.
When blood glucose levels are higher than normal it is called high blood glucose (hyperglycemia). If your blood glucose gets too high, you will be diagnosed with prediabetes or diabetes.

Foods high in fibre may fight against asthma
A group of scientists at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland had came out to reveal through the experiment they carried out on mice that the high and low fibre diets altered the types of bacteria living in the guts of the mice.
Good bacteria which can munch on soluble fibre, the type found in fruit and
vegetables, were found to flourished on the high-fibre diet and they in turn produced more short-chain fatty acids which is the type of fat, absorbed into the blood.
Accordingly, the scientists said these fatty acids acted as signals to the immune system and resulted in the lungs being more resistant to irritation.
The opposite happened in low-fibre diets and the mice became more vulnerable to asthma.
Their report argued that a dietary shift away from fibre in favour of processed foods may be involved in rising levels of asthma.
In recent decades, there has been a well-documented increase in the incidence of allergic asthma in developed countries and coincident with this increase have been changes in diet, including reduced consumption of fibre.
Consumers are encourage to try and go for foods that are high in fibre against the ones that are low in fibre. High fibre foods are good for the overall benefits of the body from lowering high blood pressure to diabetes and many more.

Being overweight raises your risk for type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke
Being overweight raises your risk for type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke. It can cause other problems, too, like high blood pressure, the force of blood exerted on the inside walls of blood
vessels. Blood pressure is expressed as a ratio (example: 120/80, read as “120 over 80”).
The first number is the systolic (sis-TAH-lik) pressure, or the pressure when the heart pushes blood out into the arteries. The second number is the diastolic (DY-uh-STAH-lik) pressure, or the pressure when the heart rests.X, unhealthy cholesterol, and high blood glucose (sugar). Losing weight can help you prevent and manage these problems. And you don’t have to lose a lot of weight. Even losing 10-15 pounds can make a big difference.

Top 10 Causes of Type 2 Diabetes
So many factors or a single one can cause someone to develop diabetes. This article will analyse some major risk factors or causes of type 2 diabetes.
10 CAUSES OF DIABETES
1. Eating an excessive amount of food especially fat can cause diabetes.
2. Engaging in little or no physical activities or exercise is one of the major
causes of diabetes.
3. Type 2 diabetes happens when the pancreas doesn’t make enough insulin, or the cells of the body gotten to be impervious to insulin.
Insulin is a hormone made in the pancreas that permits glucose (sugar) to leave the circulatory system, enter the cells to be utilized as energy.
4. Being corpulent or overweight puts you at noteworthy danger for having type 2 diabetes. It was revealed by one research that 90% individuals with type 2
diabetes are overweight or fat. Therefore, it is advisable for people that are overweight to reduce their weight. If not, they are writing invitation letter to diabetes.
5. The number five factors that causes diabetes on my list is abundance fat, particularly stomach fat. The fat that accumulate in your tommy changes the way that your body reacts to insulin, prompting a condition called insulin resistance. With this
condition, your cells can’t utilize
insulin to process glucose
out of the blood , bringing about high glucose levels.
While not everybody with insulin
resistance creates diabetes,
individuals with insulin resistance are at expanded danger of developing diabetes.
6. The number six factors on my list is poor eating habits
We need to be careful about what we eat and drink if we really want to avoid diabetes or control the condition in already diabetic individual.
We need to be eating less
high calorie food, refined nourishments and drinks, for example, soft drinks or juices, and to eat more crude or natural products such as
vegetables, and whole grains.
7. We need to limit the time we spent in front of television. An excessive amount of TV Time has been revealed as one of the causes of diabetes.
A study shows that individuals
who stared at the TV more
than two hours a day were more

The reason why people that spend long hours watching TV could develop diabetes is that it is likely they will be eating while watching the TV. Since they will stay in one position their body cannot metabolise the food properly.
However, cutting TV time
back to under 10 hours a

Meaning of Type 2 Diabetes: Two Causes of High Blood Glucose
Meaning of Type 2 Diabetes?
Type 2 diabetes is the commonest type of diabetes and is affecting millions of people around the world.
Type 2 diabetes is characterized by high glucose which specialists allude to as hyperglycemia.
Type 2 diabetes is different from other kind of diabetes such as type 1 diabetes, gestational and other types of diabetes because it is characterized by high blood glucose level. The danger of type 2 diabetes
is high glucose in the blood stream.
TWO FACTORS CAUSING HIGH GLUCOSE LEVEL
This high blood glucose is caused 1. high glucose are insulin resistance and 2. decreased generation of insulin by the pancreas.
Predominance of Diabetes
Diabetes is a serious, common disease affecting multi-millions people throughout the world and over 30 million individuals in the United States alone of which 90 to 95 percent have type 2 diabetes. This indicate that very nearly 10 percent of United States population are diabetic. Imagine if more than 30 million have diabetes in the US, how many people will have the disease worldwide?
Diabetes should not be taken lightly because it is currently the seventh driving reason for death among Americans, as per the CDC.
And the case of diabetes will continue to rise because of the modern lifestyles will live which encourages diabetes and other cardiovascular diseases.
On the off chance that present patterns proceed with, one of each three grown-ups in the United States will have some type of diabetes by 2050.
The CDC additionally evaluates there were 1.7 million recently analyzed instances of diabetes among individuals matured 20 and more established in the United States in 2012.
If you have diagnosed with diabetes or any of your close relation or friend is diabetic, you are not alone as the disease affect around 347 million individuals presently round the world, as indicated by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Let us talk about the two Major reasons why you might be diabetic or have type 2 diabetes to be precise.
1. Insulin Resistance
Insulin resistance is a state in which the body’s cells don’t utilize insulin productively. Accordingly, it takes more insulin than typical to transport glucose (the fundamental kind of sugar found in the circulation system) into cells, where it can be utilized for fuel or put away for later utilize.
It’s not so much clear why a few individuals create insulin resistance and others don’t.
It must be noted that is not everybody that develop type 2 diabetes do so because of high consumption of sugar or other detrimental lifestyles. So many many factors could cause it or lead to insulin resistance.
2. Decreased Insulin Production
If there is insulin resistance the pancreas reacts by discharging more insulin. This higher-than-typical level of insulin in the circulation system is called hyperinsulinemia.
In the beginning the pancreas may have the capacity to keep the glucose level in the blood balanced by discharging insulin and glucose levels may stay inside of the typical extent — around 70 to 100 mg/dl before suppers and lower than 140 mg/dl after dinners. However, like other engine, the pancreas will no longer be able to keep up the balance in the long run. That means the pancreas will not be able to supply the insulin needed to balance the blood sugar or glucose level. This break down of the pancreas will lead to continual rising of the glucose levels.
In the early stages, higher-than-ordinary glucose may bring about no side effects. Be that as it may, getting it early is critical, on the grounds that after some time, high glucose can damage some major part of the body.
HIGHLIGHTS
Type 2 diabetes is a condition of high blood glucose level which is detrimental to the body. This high blood sugar level is caused by insulin resistance and low insulin production due to overwork and consequent breakdown of the pancreas.

3 REASONS WHY NUTS MIGHT BE GOOD FOR DIABETES
This morning i bought groundnuts and someone that is diabetics asked me to give her, so i did. I now decided to ask from google whether eating groundnut is good for diabetic. Though, the answer i found do not mention groundnut specifically but it says the overall effects of nuts as a whole on diabetes and other sickness.
The article says diabetics can eat any kind of
nuts as long as they
eat it in moderation and balance
it with healthy choices because nuts
have general health benefits which diabetics also can benefit from.
3 REASONS WHY NUTS MIGHT BE HEALTHY FOR DIABETES
1. One of the reasons why groundnut and nuts are good for diabetes is that it helps to lower cholesterol.
High cholesterol levels is detrimental to our health as it can
contribute to the risk of heart
disease. However, the unsaturated fats in nuts help lower low-density
lipoprotein, the “bad” cholesterol while raising the levels
of high-density lipoprotein, the
“good” form of cholesterol.
Another reason nut helps to lower cholesterol is that it is highly rich in
fiber and plant
sterols. It was even
reported
that eating 30
grams of walnuts daily over a long period like 6-
month period could help people with type 2 diabetes because it could reduce LDL by 10
percent and raised HDL levels by a good percentage.
2. The number two reason why nuts might be good for diabetes is that nuts help to lower glycemic
index of foods.
The glycemic index is a
measurement of how fast your
body absorbs certain
carbohydrates. Foods with higher glycemic
index is harmful for
diabetics because they will be absorbed fastly by the body and faster absorption
raises blood glucose levels more
rapidly.
People with diabetes who eat nuts along
with foods with a high-glycemic
index such as pasta could slow their absorption
of carbohydrate and thus stabilizing their blood glucose levels because adding almonds to white bread
lowered the glycemic index in a research conducted on non-diabetics.
3. The third reason nuts might be good for diabetes is that nuts help to reduce the risk of heart
disease.
Since diabetics have double or higher
the risk developing heart disease
than people without diabetes, eating in MODERATION foods such as almonds and
walnuts which are high in
vitamin E can slow plaque
development that leads to
atherosclerosis. Also walnuts are rich in Omega-3 fatty
acids, which help to
reduce the risk of developing
irregular heartbeats and heart attack. Other nuts such as almonds,
macadamia nuts, hazelnuts and
pecans also have
heart-protective benefits.
Another reason nuts are good for the heart is that they contain L-
arginine, an amino acid found in
nuts, which make artery walls more
flexible, thus preventing
blood clotting and ensure smooth flow of blood to the
heart.
BOTTOM LINE
Nuts which groundnut is among is good for everybody including diabetics. However, it should be taken in moderation or daily right proportion especially for diabetes patients.

Tumeric Helps To Control Diabetes
Tumeric is a very useful herb for treating, managing and controlling diabetes. There are many herbs that can help diabetes patients to better manage their health condition by controlling the glucose level in the blood.
Diabetes patients are encouraged not to rely on Orthodox medication alone. Get me right i
do not say that diabetes patients should not use orthodox medicine, but they should also take a look at herbs that could work alongside the orthodox medicine.
God created these herbs for our benefit and we should take advantage of it. One of the herbs that is good for controlling diabetes is tumeric. Tumeric contains many important elements or properties such as antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, anticarcinogenic, antimutagenic and calming properties.
There is a post i wrote about seven health benefits of tumeric. In that post i wrote that tumeric relieves arthritis, heal wound, control diabetes, fight cancer, powerful immune booster, contain numerous nutrients and vitamins and lower cholesterol level.
However, i just want to extract the number 3 usefulness of tumeric on the list which is how it helps to control diabetes.
Read the excerpt below:
Tumeric Controls Diabetes
Turmeric can be utilized as a part of the treatment of diabetes by serving to control insulin levels. It likewise enhances glucose control and expands the impact of prescriptions used to treat diabetes. Another noteworthy advantage is turmeric’s adequacy in helping decrease insulin resistance, which may keep the onset of Type-2 diabetes. Be that as it may, when consolidated with solid meds, turmeric can bring about hypoglycemia (low glucose). It is best to counsel a medicinal services proficient before taking turmeric cases.
s
BOTTOM LINE:
Tumeric should be added to our diet routine either diabetic or not since it is useful as a preventive agent against diseases as mentioned above. It is highly recommended for diabetes patients because it will help them to properly control their blood sugar while also protecting them against other opportunistic diseases.
