The Spain playmaker has not been able to
shake off a recurring ankle problem and is
playing with the aid of pain-killing injections,
but his manager says an operation is
not
needed
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini
says David Silva does not need surgery on his
troublesome ankle, despite the playmaker
now being forced to miss the clash with
West Brom on Saturday.
Silva has especially struggled with his ankle
since suffering a recurrence of a long-
standing problem while on international duty
with Spain back in October.
That ruled him out for six weeks but he has
not been able to recapture his best form
even though he has regularly featured in the
City first-team for the past five months.
In recent weeks the 30-year-old has been
receiving pain-killing injections to help him
keep the pain at bay, but Pellegrini does not
think an operation is the best course of
action.
"No, I don't think surgery [is needed]," he told
reporters. "It's a small problem. He's been
playing a lot of games with this pain.
"It's a kick he received with his national team
that unfortunately for him he cannot recover
100 per cent. He plays with some pain, not
too much, but to repeat games, in three
days, for him is more difficult.

"At the end of the season he will recover
100% but we will see with the treatment. But
no surgery."
Pellegrini also revealed that Raheem Sterling
and Vincent Kompany are still unable to
feature against the Baggies, but Yaya Toure
will be in the squad.
"Yaya started yesterday working again with
the squad," Pellegrini added. "He recovered
from his knee problem that he has in the last
game. He is in the squad list. We will see
tomorrow if he can start or play some
minutes."
