The Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘C’, an anti-smuggling arm of the Nigeria Customs Service Owerri, has intercepted a truck with military hardware and medicaments concealed within it.
National Daily authoritatively gathered that the FOU mobile patrol team on the Head bridge recently, effected the interception, uncovering prohibited items which included 90 pairs of military camouflage uniform, 97 pieces of military camouflage jungle hats and 202 pieces of military camouflage round neck vest.
Expatiating on this, the FOU Owerri Controller, Olusemire Kayode gave newsmen a breakdown showing 20 pieces of military camouflage singlet; 40 pieces of military camouflage jungle boots; 10 pieces of military camouflage water bags; two rolls of plain military khaki material; 7 cartons of 402 packs of hydrochloride Royal tramadol containing 10x10x10 tablets made in India; four cartons of 60 packs of made in India Tramadol injection; three cartons of 140 packs of CSP with codeine cough syrup made in UK; 100 packs of Diazepam made in India; two cartons of 231 packs of Juhel D5 tablets and one carton of 100 packs of Pankizol.
Other items also intercepted were 10 cartons of new flipchart board, 51 cartons of lion school chalk, and one carton of file.
Comptroller Olusemire highlighted that the seizure was made following a tip off from informants and urged the public to emulate such patriotism and forward valuable information to the Service, adding that two suspects were presently in custody, even as thorough investigation is ongoing.
He praised the doggedness and preparedness of officers and affirmed that the Unit under his watch will nip the affairs of smugglers in the bud.
Speaking further, he queried the aim of the importers of the consignment in concealing the military hardware and medicament explaining that the improper importation of the camouflage and medicament pose grave health and safety risks.
The FOU Command Boss consequently admonished smugglers to engage in legitimate trade and called for public support in the fight against smuggling.
It would be recalled that the FOU Zone ‘C’ Owerri had similarly made a seizure of military hardware earlier in July.

Hearing in the case of Ronke Shonde, the mother of two who was allegedly beaten to death by her husband, Lekan, continued yesterday, September 25th with a pathologist with the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Dr S.S. Soyele, revealing that the deceased died from severe brain injury.
Soyele said a postmortem conducted on Ronke’s corpse revealed that her brain was heavy, swollen and filled with water.
Recall that in May 2016, the story of how the mother of two was beaten to death by her 51-year-old husband following an argument at their home in the Egbeda-Idimu area of Lagos State.
He was alleged to have locked the door of their home with her corpse and their two children before the incident was discovered by a housekeeper who came in to resume for the day.
Lekan upon surrendering himself to the police, told the police that himself and his wife got into an argument after he found out she was allegedly having an affair with one Kayode, the manager at a publishing company. Shonde said he only slapped her and did not beat her to death as being alleged.
At the resumed hearing of the case against him yesterday, the pathologist said it was unlikely that the deceased inflicted the injuries on herself because of the multiplicity of the wounds.
He also aid Ronke had other head injuries believed to have been sustained from other beatings.
“The deceased died from respiratory failure, caused by cerebral edema (swollen brain), caused by a blunt force trauma to the brain,” he said. “A bruise was found on her left jaw. During autopsy, it was also discovered that the deceased had black eyes (pupils) a tell-tale sign of brain injury.
“We opened up the body and brought out all the organs. We also opened up the skull to bring out the brain. Blood collection was discovered in the skull, just beneath the skin.
“The deceased’s uterus was also brought out and there was no sign of conception. We took samples from the brain in order to determine the cause of death which primarily was respiratory failure caused by trauma to the brain” he said
The pathologist added that the autopsy carried on Ronke showed she had suffered injuries to her brain in the past.
“We took samples from the brain and discovered old haemorrhage (bleeding) in the brain, which suggests past trauma,” the pathologist said
At the previous court proceedings on September 20th, Ronke’s sister, Bolatito Bewaji, had revealed during her testimony that Ronke had approached a lawyer to file for divorce on the day she was allegedly murdered by Lekan.
Bolatito, also a banker, said that Lekan was very possessive of his wife, and would beat her at the slightest opportunity.
“My sister even told me that her husband would lift her up and slam her against the wall, whenever they had an argument. I was not surprised when I got the call on that fateful day that her lifeless and bloodied body had been found because I knew with the way things were going, he would one day kill her,” she said.
The trial judge adjourned the case till October 24th.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities may join the Nigeria Labour Congress in the ongoing industrial action.
The Owerri Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, Prof Uzo Onyebinama, disclosed this at a press conference at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.
While debunking that the strikes were not sponsored by the opposition parties, Onyebinama said the reason of ASUU strike was as a result of the Federal Government’s inability to fulfill the 2009 agreement with the union on the welfare of its members.
His statement read in part,
“You will recall that the 2009 FGN —ASUU Agreement made provision for the re-negotiation of the Agreement every three (3) years.
“Consequently, the first renegotiation of the Agreement should have been in 2012. This was not to be. The first renegotiation of the Agreement commenced in March 2017.
“As we speak now, the renegotiation exercise has broken down since May 2018 (after 14months), due largely to the deliberate tactics adopted by the leader of the Government Team, Dr. Wale Babalakin, to scuttle the renegotiation, by jettisoning the principle of collective bargaining and the gains of previous agreements, memorandum of understanding and memorandum of action.
“In addition, the government team insisted that education ought to be funded from ‘diverse sources’ and consequently proposed the establishment of an Education Bank and a Students’ Loan Scheme.”
The Union urged the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, provide a platform for the leadership of ASUU to engage State Governors on issues of proliferation of universities, underfunding of state universities, undue interference in the administration of state universities, and the non-implementation of various components of the 2009 Agreement in many state universities.
The union said it would be left with no other choice than to embark on an industrial action if the contentious issues were not resolved.

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) on Monday alleged that INEC was giving to Osun State officials unclaimed permanent voter cards in units where there would be supplementary election.
The coalition members alleged that the conspiracy was being spearheaded by some unnamed national officers of the commission.
CUPP, which was formed a few months ago with the aim of ousting the President Muhammadu Buhari administration in the 2019 presidential election, warned that the act of illegality would not be allowed to stand.
Spokesman for the CUPP, Mr Ikenga Ugochinyere, made the allegations in a statement on Monday.
He said, “The attention of the CUPP has been drawn to credible intelligence showing a new conspiracy by some national officers of INEC to tamper and manipulate the Osun governorship rerun with the ongoing release of uncollected PVCs to desperate APC government in Osun State.
“We wish to alert the public that INEC, in furtherance of this move being coordinated by an INEC senior officer from South-West, has refused to release the official list of people who have collected PVCs at the seven polling units where the election is to be held.
“We have it on good authority that less than 1,000 registered voters have collected their PVC’s out of the 3,498 voters. This means that less than 1,000 persons are to participate in the actual voting.
“We demand that INEC immediately release this list. The delay is a calculated plot to announce a fictitious figure of uncollected PVCs to enable the APC to share the PVCs to thugs imported from Lagos.”
Ugochinyere added that the CUPP was aware that the Information Communications Technology Unit of the commission was on the verge of releasing the telephone numbers of registered voters of the rerun polling units to the APC.
“The plan is to call, harass and bribe the voters with huge sums from the Paris Club refund meant to pay Osun workers their three-year salary,” he added.
Present concrete proofs, INEC tells CUPP
But INEC said the CUPP should present proofs to back up its allegations, warning the body to stop sowing discord in Osun State.
Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, who spoke on Monday, noted that INEC had “conducted six governorship elections since 2015 without manipulation.”
Oyekanmi said, “It is irresponsible of the CUPP to make a wild and unsubstantiated allegation such as this at this time. What exactly is their motive? The media should ask the CUPP to provide concrete proof about this allegation. The INEC has conducted 191 different types of elections, including six governorship elections since 2015. If the commission did not manipulate any of these elections, why will it do so now with the Osun governorship election?
“The CUPP is advised to engage in patriotic actions rather than sowing discord at a time like this.”
Also, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun State, Mr Olusegun Agbaje, denied the allegation.
Just few days after the Osun Governorship election was held Inconclusive by INEC, a lot has happened in a bid for APC Candidates “Oyetola” to Win the re-run election today against PDP’s Adeleke.
NOTE:- APC’s Oyetola is not a saint either. His do or die attitude shows it’s for his own interest and not that of the people.
Omisore was offered Millions of Naira and a Ministerial appointment to support APC in the re-run election.
APC leaders held a meeting with Omisore in his home at ile-ife yesterday just to get his support for their member.

The suspect who simply gave his name as Chidi, disclosed that what people used to know as yahoo yahoo, a term used to defraud unsuspecting and gullible persons,especially foreigners, through the internet, has gone beyond mere conversation and emotional chat.
He disclosed that yahoo plus is the trend in cybercrime world today, as operators have resorted to using fetish means to hypnotize their victims in order to get what they want from them.
In this interview with Crime Guard, Chidi said he ventured into cyber crime eight years ago, after several attempts to gain admission into the university failed. Rather than venting his frustration on the appropriate channel, he chosed rather, to unleash it on undeserving individuals,by defrauding them of their hard earned money. Unfortunately, five years down the line, he said he could only get himself a Nigerian used vehicle.

I remembered my mum’s admonition never to go into anything fetish but to serve the almighty God. I kept the concoction away and watched as events unfolded. Three months later, one of us Chuks, made 3000 dollars .But Odinakachuckwu lost his younger brother who went to use his laptop.
“The instruction of the herbalist was that no one except him, should use his laptop. Just as we were smarting from that, Chionye lost his girlfriend.
“I decided to quit at that point because I did not want anyone to die on my account. I am therefore appealing to those I have defrauded through yahoo yahoo to forgive me”,
he stated.
