N4.6bn Fraud! How EFCC Asked Me To Implicate Dudafa For My Freedom – Banker Alleges

According to Leadership, Iwejuo Joseph Nna, the co-accused in the on-going trial of former Senior Special Assistant to Ex- President Goodluck Jonathan, Warimapo Owei-Dudafa yesterday told a Federal High Court in Lagos that he was charged to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) because of his refusal to implicate Dudafa.

Nna, a banker with Heritage Bank Plc, who was testifying in his own defence in the alleged N4.6 billion fraud case also told the court that he only carried out Presidential directive, in the payment of N15 million to the GTBank account of one Itekesi Florence on May 6, 2015.

The two men are facing allegations of conspiring to conceal proceeds of crime. They were on June 11, 2016, arraigned before the court by the EFCC on a 23-count charge of conspiracy to conceal proceeds of crime amounting to N1.6 billion.

In the charge, the anti-graft agency alleged that the two accused persons, between June 2013 and June 2015, used different companies to fraudulently launder the money.

The five companies are: Seagate Property Development & Investment Limited, Avalon Global Property Development Company Limited and Pluto Property Limited Investment Company Limited and Rotate Interlink Services Limited.

The offences according to the EFCC are contrary to and punishable under sections 17(a), 18(c), and 27 (3) (c) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act 2004.

They, however, pleaded, not guilty to the charge. Nna in his evidence-in-chief, told Justice Mohammed Idris, that upon his arrival at the office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, that he was told that he is not the target of their investigation.

He also claimed that the investigators told him that if he cooperates with them he would be left off the hook, but that if he refused to implicate the first defendant he would be persecuted for the sin of another person.

“I told them that I can’t understand what they mean and they asked me if I have a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, (SAN), who would be ready to defend me and that I should be prepared for the consequences if I refused to cooperate”.

The accused persons further told the court that he was not the only one invited by the anti- graft agency on the matter and that the bank’s Head of operations, Yenagoa branch, Ademola Folorunso who had earlier testified against the first defendant when invited as well as one Stanley Nwogu, the branch head of Fund Transfer.

Nna denied having any personal relationship with the companies listed in the charge except official relationship as the Account Officer responsible for those account.

“I have no personal relationship with any of the companies, I only manage them in my official capacity as the account officer”, he said.

He further told the court that he had no official role in the process of opening the account which were opened at the bank’s headquarters and not in Yenagoa.

Nna further told the court that as the branch manager of Heritage Bank, his role in administering the branch is more of ceremonial, and that the key persons are the operations manager without whom no account can be operated and the Head of the Fund Transfer unit, Stanley Nwogu without whom no funds can be transferred from the bank.

Meanwhile, further hearing in the matter has been adjourned till September 18

BREAKING! Tinubu Drops Ambode… As He And 57 LG CHAIRMEN Endorse SANWOOLU As Lagos Governorship Aspirant!!!

Information reaching the GQBUZZ this evening reveals that the plot to stop Akinwunmi Ambode, governor of Lagos, in 2019 have been dismissed by stakeholders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state but emerging signs show he is fighting for his political life.

According to Cable, there is a threat to impeach Ambode if he does not drop his second term bid.

Over 50 council chairmen loyal to Bola Tinubu, his estranged godfather, have met and pledged their support for Jide Sanwonolu, who is believed to be Tinubu’s preferred choice, according to APC insiders.

The council chairmen are the most influential grassroots mobilizers under the direct primary system adopted by APC to pick governorship candidates.

Most members of the Lagos house of assembly are also loyal to Tinubu.

“Meeting is over. Ambode is out. Jide Sanyaolu Sanwonolu is the new governor of Lagos. All 57 local government chairman have signed his form. It’s over,” the source said.

TheCable could not independently verify this claim.

Ambode at the APC headquarters on Monday

On Monday, the governor, alongside some members of his cabinet, stormed the headquarters of the APC in Abuja to get expression of interest and nomination forms for his 2019 bid.

He later told some APC members that he was not tired and needed their support to continue in office beyond 2019.

“With your support, we have made Lagos a better place and changed the face of our state. I did not do it alone; we did it together, because you believed,” he had said.

“So, I humbly call you again, to give me your support as I seek to continue with your mandate to steer the affairs of our state. I ask you to believe again and together, let’s achieve more.”

However, Sanwonolu and Obafemi Hamzat, two prominent members of the APC in Lagos, also picked the nomination forms for the governorship election of 2019.

Sanwonolu, who served as a commissioner under Babatunde Fashola, Ambode’s predecessor, is currently the managing director of Lagos State Property Development Corporation (LSPDC).

He is being backed by Mandate Movement, a group fiercely loyal to Tinubu.

At a meeting held after Sanwonolu picked up his nomination form, James Odunmbaku, an ally of Tinubu known as “Baba Eto” in the political circle, said “Sanwololu is the incoming governor of Lagos.”

There have been reports of a rift between Tinubu and Ambode. When the APC leader canvassed for direct primary in Lagos, rumors were rife that Ambode was one of the targets but both men have carried on as if all is well.

Hamzat, a former commissioner in the state, is also eyeing Ambode’s seat, having failed to secure the party’s ticket in 2015.

Heavyweights of the ruling party had rallied round Ambode who defeated Hamzat and Olasupo Sasore, the choice of Fashola, to clinch the ticket of APC in 2015.

Asked to comment on the latest development in the state, Joe Igbokwe, publicity secretary of Lagos APC, told TheCable: “Do you know that Ambode picked his nomination form yesterday? That puts to rest the speculations you’ve been hearing for years. Ambode is the man. Take it.”

Tunde Rahman, spokesman of Tinubu, promised to get back to TheCable when he was contacted but had not done so as of the time this report was filed.

Abib Haruna, chief press secretary to Ambode, was not available for comments, his telephone line was out of reach.

The latest development is coming at a time when an APC faction led by Fouad Oki is plotting to stop the primaries for the 2019 elections which are to commence across the country on Wednesday.

What Kind of Men Go to Prostitutes?Find Out now

When the Kinsey report on male s$xual behavior was published in 1948, it revealed among its then-scandalous findings that up to 69 percent of American men had paid for s$x at some point in their lives.

Since then, the notion of the “john next door” has been perpetuated in pop culture, and even in some recent studies. But new research drawing on a large-scale nationally representative sample of men shows that frequenting prostitutes is not actually all that ordinary in the United States.

About 14 percent of American men said they paid for sex at some point in their lives, but just 1 percent said they visited a prostitute in the past year (2010), according to the study, which is, in part, based on data collected as part of the General Social Survey by researchers at the National Opinion Research Center.

“While it is noteworthy to recognize that the 1 percent of adult men who paid for sex in 2010 still result in a large number of customers, there is no credible evidence to support the idea that hiring s$x workers is a common or conventional aspect of masculine sexual behavior among men in the United States,” study researcher Christine Milrod, of the University of Portland, said in a statement.

The researchers also found that the average john doesn’t look all that different from the average man who has never paid for s$x — clients are more likely to have served in the military, only slightly less likely to be married and white, and only slightly more likely to have a full-time job and be more s$xually liberal.

More distinct characteristics, however, emerge among avid customers of prostitutes who self-identify as “hobbyists” and post on message boards that review call girls. A survey of men in this online community revealed that a substantial portion of them are married, white, earn over $120,000 per year, have graduate degrees and think about sex more (and feel less guilty about it), compared with other groups of men, including those who have been arrested for hiring prostitutes on the street.

Men of this more privileged class that cruise the Internet instead of the sidewalks for s$x also have different views about prostitution. Compared with men who have been arrested for soliciting a prostitute, the “hobbyists” are more likely to say that prostitution should be legal, that they would marry a prostitute and that prostitutes enjoy their work, the researchers found.

Whereas the authors of the new study argue that hiring prostitutes is not necessarily an ordinary behavior, they say there’s also little evidence to show that it’s inherently deviant or linked to psychological deficiencies. That’s in contrast to findings by some anti-prostitution groups.

A small-scale study presented in 2011 by the nonprofit Prostitution Research & Education, based in San Francisco, compared 101 men who had bought s$x with 100 men with similar age, race and education level who had not. The s$x-buying men were recruited through ads in newspapers and on Craigslist, and they were more likely than non-s$x-buyers to have a prior criminal history, to say they would commit rape if they could get away with it and to have coerced non-prostitute s$x partners into s$x.

There are undoubtedly some johns who act violently toward call girls, but the new study found that most s$x-buyers were unlikely to buy into so-called rape myths that have been linked to violence against women (such as the notion that most women report a rape to get back at a man).

The results suggest “john schools” that try to educate men who have been arrested for buying s$x might be misguided for assuming that these offenders need to be treated for anger management and s$xual addiction.

“The emphasis on teaching about ‘s$x addiction’ and ‘healthy relationships’ to arrested men further supports the notion that customers of street prostitutes are endowed with some form of psychopathology that needs reorientation toward more accepted forms of s$xual relations,” Milrod said. “The focus on treatment fails to separate paying for s$x and being psychologically impaired.”

The research was detailed March 22 in the International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology.
