Fayose Vs EFCC: ‘I Am Innocent Of All Charges, Take Me To Court’

The ex-governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose arrived at the EFCC office in Wuse 2, Abuja in a customized blue Tee-Shirt with the inscription “EFCC I’m here”. The controversial governor was accompanied by his lawyer Mike Ozekhome(SAN), Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode and a small crowd of supporters, wearing white T-Shirts emblazoned with “Fayose, the conscience of the nation”.

 

A source said:

“He made a statement where he denied all the allegations and asked the commission to take him to court.

“So far, he has not responded to how he came about N1.3billion and $5.377million from ONSA. He has more issues to clarify; we are going to detain him.”

“There are three teams handling the allegations against the former governor. There is a special team managing his suspended trial because he had immunity as a governor; a separate team for the N4.685b ONSA fraud and the third panel probes his just completed tenure.

“Definitely, we are going to detain Fayose because he has a lot of issues to clarify.”

The agency’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren said: “The ex-governor is still undergoing interrogation as at last night.”

Uganda President Yoweri Museveni  has given US rapper, Kanye West and his wife Kim Kardashian Ugandan names.

This was disclosed in a post on Facebook by Uganda State House.

“President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has met with visiting American rapper, Kanye Omari West and his wife, Kim Kardashian, who paid a courtesy call on him this morning at State House, Entebbe.

The President welcomed the couple to Uganda saying the country is for all the people.

“This is the source of human life, even the whites originally came from here” he said.

The President and his guests later exchanged gifts.

The visiting couple was excited by the Ugandan names given to them by the President.

Kanye West received the name “Kanyesigye“- meaning, Ï trust, while his wife was named “Kemigisha“- meaning the one with blessings from God.

The American rapper on his part expressed happiness at being in Uganda describing it as his second home. He informed the President that he intends to put up a world class tourism school in the country, which will support the tourism industry not only in Uganda but the East Africa region in general.”

During their visit to the State House, Kanye gifted the president an autographed pair of sneakers.

Melania Trump Spokesperson hits back at T.I. over Stripper Video

A spokesperson for the first lady is hitting back at rapper T.I. after he posted a video of himself watching a Melania Trump lookalike strip in the Oval Office.

Stephanie Grisham, Mrs. Trump’s director of communications, posted on Twitter Saturday calling the video “disgusting.” She added, “How is this acceptable? … #BoycottT.I.” and tagged the rapper, 38, in the tweet.

 

Asked for further comment, Grisham told PEOPLE on Tuesday: “Like it or not, she is the first lady and this is the White House. It’s disrespectful and disgusting to portray her this way simply because of politics. These kinds of vulgar attacks only further the divisiveness and bias in our country — it needs to stop.”

T.I., who is an outspoken critic of Melania’s husband, President Donald Trump, dropped an NSFW clip on Friday on his social media accounts, which mocks Kanye West‘s meeting last week with the commander in chief, 72.

Atiku: How Enugu residents reacted to Peter Obi’s emergence as PDP VP candidate

Scores of Enugu State residents on Saturday, expressed joy, as the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, named former governor of Anambra, Mr Peter Obi, his running mate for the 2019 presidential election.

Some of the residents, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu, said that Atiku made a right choice in picking Obi as his running mate.

A legal practitioner, Mr Nicholas Ude, noted that the choice of the former governor would bring about a positive change, adding that Obi did very well while in office.

“All the sectors in Anambra during Obi’s tenure were properly fixed for the benefit of every Anambra person.

“I, however, hope that he will do the same if elected as Atiku’s vice president,” he said.

In his views, Mr Okechukwu Adibe, another legal practitioner, said that Obi’s impressive performance in his eight years as governor, was why he was chosen by Atiku.

“The former governor exhibited good governance in Anambra through his good knowledge of the economy across all sectors in the state,” he said.

For Cyprian Nnodu, the former governor corrected all the wrongs in governance in Anambra, making the state to stand as one of the best states in Nigeria.

Nnodu, a lawyer, however, called on youths and politicians to emulate Obi’s performance, noting that good character and integrity were of important in a person’s life and career.

In the same vein, Mrs Nneka Dim, a psychologist, said that people would hardly forget Obi’s performance as a governor in the state.

“Obi, through his knowledge of the economy, gave his best in repositioning Anambra as well as putting it on a good and high standard.

“This, I believe, is why Atiku picked him. I am sure that if Atiku wins, the country will not be disappointed,” she added.

Meanwhile, a businessman, Mr Ikechukwu Ani, described Obi’s choice as a welcome development in Nigeria.

He added that with Obi on board, many wrongs would be corrected as he did during his time as a governor.

“Obi performed well and everyone felt it, especially in the areas of road infrastructure, health, education, judiciary among others,” Ani added.

Fayose inuagurates new school in Ekiti, gifts principal a brand new car

Out going governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose on Wednesday, inaugurated a new school in Afao Ekiti.

The governor who will be handing over to the governor- elect, Kayode Fayemi in a few days time said the school is called Gifted International Academy.

The Governor made the revelation via his Twitter handle on Wednesday evening. He stated that the school has modern facilities such as laboratories, Closed- Circuit Television (CCTV) for surveillance and internet.

I don’t have social media accounts – IBB

General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) who once rule Nigeria as a military ruler,  has dissociated himself from social media accounts bearing his name.

Such accounts have been issuing statements in his name, one of which is a purported congratulatory message to Atiku Abubakar, who last week emerged presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Why I Chose To Forgive Atiku – Obasanjo (Full Text)

Below is the full text of the remarks made by former President Olusegun Obasanjo during the reconciliatory visit by the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to Abeokuta on October 11, 2018.

I am happy to welcome the distinguished leaders of goodwill who have led the PDP Presidential Candidate and my former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, to my humble abode and I welcome the Presidential Candidate himself.

Let me start by congratulating President-to-be, Atiku Abubakar, for his success at the recent PDP Primary and I took note of his gracious remarks in his acceptance speech that it all started here.

Yes, when it started, it was meant for Atiku to succeed Obasanjo. In the presence of these distinguished leaders of goodwill today, let me say it openly that we have reviewed what went wrong on the side of Atiku.

And in all honesty, my former Vice-President has re-discovered and re-positioned himself. As I have repeatedly said, it is not so much what you did against me that was the issue but what you did against the Party, the Government and the country

I took the stand I had taken based on the character and attributes you exhibited in the position you found yourself. I strongly believe that I was right. It was in the overall interest of everyone and everything to take such a position.

From what transpired in the last couple of hours or so, you have shown remorse; you have asked for forgiveness and you have indicated that you have learnt some good lessons and you will mend fences and make amends as necessary and as desirable.

Whenever or wherever you might have offended me, as a Christian who asks for God’s forgiveness of my sins and inadequacies on daily basis, I forgive and I sincerely advise you to learn from the past and do what is right and it will be well with you. Obviously, you have mended fences with the Party and fully reconciled with the Party.

That’s why today, you are the Presidential Candidate of the Party. In addition to appreciating all that the Party has done for you, may I advise you to work together with all those who contested for the Party’s flag with you as a team for your campaign.

There are still areas, nationally and internationally, where you have to mend fences and make amends.

You will know how to handle what is already out and what may yet be put out by the opposition. But, I am convinced that if you continue with the attitude that brought you here with these distinguished leaders of goodwill, with remorse and contrite heart, the rest of the coast within and outside the country can be cleared. And if there is anything I can do and you want me to do in that respect, I will do.

I am sure with the right attitude for change where necessary, and by putting lessons learned by you to work, you will get the understanding, cooperation, support and mandate – all at the national level.

With Nigerians voting for you, it will mean that you secure their forgiveness and regain their confidence. It will be with the hope or assurance of a Paul on the road to Damascus Conversion. After all, change and conversion are of man.

I believe that with a contrite heart, change is possible in everybody’s life and situation.

For me, relatively and of all the aspirants in the PDP, you have the widest and greatest exposure, experience, outreach and possibly the best machinery and preparation for seeing the tough and likely dirty campaign ahead through.

From what I personally know of you, you have capacity to perform better than the incumbent. You surely understand the economy better; you have business experience, which can make your administration business-friendly and boost the economy and provide jobs.

You have better outreach nationally and internationally and that can translate to better management of foreign affairs. You are more accessible and less inflexible and more open to all parts of the country in many ways.

As Pastor Bakare, one-time running mate of the incumbent President said, “You are a wazobia man.” And that should help you in confronting the confrontable and shunning nepotism.

As you know, along the road to where you are today, many leaders and ordinary people cooperated and overtly and covertly worked hard. On your behalf, I thank them all.

May their coast continue to be expanded. And when you become Nigerian President which, insha-Allah, you will be, remember what we did together in government – we ran an administration by Nigerians for all Nigerians where merit and performance count more than blood relationship, friendship or kith and kin.

Although some time and ground have been lost, you should endeavour to start from where we stopped and recover some lost ground, if not time.

Please uphold truth, integrity, principles, morality and fight corruption, crimes and insurgency. The fundamental law of the land, our constitution must be scrupulously defended.

I make one demand and one demand on you today, I need you to say before God and man that you will always remain irrevocably committed to upholding ALL the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the whole country will remain your single indivisible constituency.

Constitutionalism, popular participation and inclusiveness are pre-conditions for reversing the deficits of the past three and half years. They will ensure abiding faith in our indivisibility, oneness and faith in the survival of all against none.

The fundamentals for our development, economic growth and progress are hard and soft infrastructure. Remember to always give adequate places in your administration to our youth and women.

All the authorities involved with the preparation, all processes and conduct of the election must ensure that the election is free, fair and credible.

Once again, congratulations and I wish you well. My distinguished brothers and leaders of goodwill, thank you for making this happen.

I will now count on you to encourage all hands to be on the deck to take Nigeria to the level God has created it to be – autopilot level.

Just after their closed door meeting, Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, addressed a press conference where he announced he has forgiven his former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and would be supporting his presidential bid.

Muhammadu Buhari

He also ran in the 2007 Presidential elections as the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) where he came 3rd, behind General Muhammadu Buhari and Late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua of the PDP; the winner of the election.

In his present bid, he beat 11 other candidates in the PDP primary including Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto and Senate President Bukola Saraki to clinch the party’s ticket.

Kingsley Moghalu

The lawyer and Professor in International Business and Public Policy is the candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP).

Moghalu (55), had worked as a United Nations official for 17 years, where he served as political affairs officer in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations at the UN Headquarters in New York, Special counsel in-charge of policy development, strategic planning and external relations for the organisation’s International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and several other capacities within the global organisation.

Obiageli ‘Oby’ Ezekwesili

The Co-covener of the Advocacy group, Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) is the candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN).

Oby as she is popularly called, started off her career in public office during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration as the Pioneer head of the Budget Monitoring and Price Intelligence Unit (aka Due Process Unit) and later as Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals.

She was subsequently appointed Minister of Education during the second-term presidency of Olusegun Obasanjo, a position she left for the World Bank when she was appointed as its Vice-President for the Africa Region in May 2007.

‘Madam Due Process’ was also co-founder of Transparency International and served as one of its pioneer directors.

The 47-year old Leadership expert and motivational speaker is the candidate of the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN).

He had served as the head of the customer service department at Phillips Consulting Limited in 1998 and is currently the president of the GEMSTONE Nation Builders Foundation, non-governmental organization.

FD as he is popularly called, made public his intention to run for the Presidency n February 22, 2018 and was chosen by a coalition of 11 aspirants under the umbrella of the Presidential Aspirants Coming Together (PACT) as their consensus candidate for the 2019 general elections.

On September 29, 2018, he won the primary election of his party, the ANN to become his flag bearer for the Presidential poll in February.

Olusegun Mimiko

The former governor of Ondo is the candidate of the Zenith Labour Party.

Mimiko (64), the first two-term governor of Ondo state was previously appointed Federal Minister for Housing and Urban Development under the  Olusegun Obasanjo administration in July 2005, leaving his position as the Secretary to the Ondo State Government (SSG), having been appointed to the office in 2003.

The two-time Ondo State Commissioner for Health and immediate past chairman of the People’s Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF) declared for the presidency on September 13.

He emerged as the flag bearer of the ZLP on Sunday.

The human rights activist and and founder of online news agency, Sahara Reporters is the candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC).

Sowore (47), was the President of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Student Union Government between 1992 and 1994, announced his intention to run for the office of president in the 2019 Presidential election on February 25, 2018.

On October 6, 2018, he emerged unchallenged as the Presidential Candidate for the party which he founded in August.

Chris Okotie

The 60-year old televangelist and Senior Pastor of the Household of God Church, Lagos is the candidate of the Fresh Democratic Party (FRESH).

Okotie first ran for the office of the President under the platform of the Justice Party (JP) in the May 2003 elections, losing to then President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He also ran in the 2007 and 2011 presidential elections on the platform of the Fresh Democratic party, a party he founded, but lost to late President Umaru  Musa Yar’Adua and President Goodluck Jonathan respectively.

Hamza Al-Mustapha

The former intelligence officer during the days of the Nigerian military junta is the candidate of the People’s Party of Nigeria (PPN).

Al-Mustapha was the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of General Sani Abacha, military head of state of Nigeria from November 1993 to June 1998 and was removed from his job by the transitional regime established by General Abdulsalam Abubakar after Abacha’s sudden death in June 1998.

He was subsequently arrested and tried for the murder of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, wife of the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election, Chief Moshood Abiola and was sentenced to death by hanging but was discharged and acquitted of the crime by the appeal court, Lagos division on Friday, July 12, 2013.

He emerged as the PPN flag bearer at the party’s National convention on Sunday, beating two other aspirants to secure the ticket.

It said: “The Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation runs an issue-based campaign where refined language and cerebral arguments founded on facts are used to disseminate the vision of our candidate which is why we call on the Buhari Campaign Organisation to waste no time in taking the #BuhariChallenge in clearing the air on these knotty issues bothering the minds of Nigerians.”

While challenging the Buhari Campaign Organisation to take the #BuhariChallenge and answer the following questions among others, it said: “Name one year that Nigeria’s GDP grew faster than her population under Buhari (for 16 years of PDP administrations, Nigeria’s GDP always grew faster than population growth).

“Name the initiatives the Buhari government has put in place to address Nigeria being named the world headquarters for extreme poverty under Buhari.

“Name one initiative the Buhari government has put in place to address Nigeria having the world’s highest number of out of school children; 13.2 million according to the United Nations Children Fund. Name the date the Ogoni cleanup will begin.

“Name what President Buhari has done with the N13 trillion loans he has taken in 3 years, compared to the N6 trillion borrowed by the PDP in 16 years.

“Name one youth in President Buhari’s cabinet. Name one campaign promise President Buhari has kept. Name the real owners of the Ikoyi apartment billions.”

It stressed that these are the issues the Nigerian people want to hear about, not insults from a Presidency and a party that have spent three years in office only to preside over Nigeria’s first ever recession in 25 years.

“We urge the Buhari administration to remember that it is this disinterest in real governance and focus on trivia that caused Bill Gates to look President Buhari in the eye and tell him that ‘your economic blueprint does not address Nigerians’ needs’.

 

Aisha Buhari Congratulates 2 Female Winners Of APC Senate Ticket

Mrs. Aisha Buhari, the wife of the President, has congratulated the two female aspirants who won APC ticket to contest for senate seats in Adamawa State.

The winners – Sen. Binta Masi-Garba and Aishatu Dahiru – picked the APC tickets to contest for the Adamawa North and Adamawa Central senatorial seats.

Mrs. Buhari’s message was contained in a statement signed by her media aide, Mr Suleiman Haruna, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Tuesday in Abuja.

She said that their success would encourage other women to join the political arena and contest for elective offices.

“We pray that the two women and all other APC female candidates will emerge winners at the secondary elections in 2019,’’ the statement added.

While calling on the candidates to remain steadfast to the APC manifesto, she appealed to them to pay special attention to women empowerment and initiate policies that would help vulnerable families, when elected.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Aishatu Binani, a new entrant into the Senatorial race, defeated former Managing Director of Nigeria Ports Authority, Mr Umar Umarana, and one other male aspirant, to pick the ticket.

Tinubu had while speaking at The Nation/TVC seminar in Abuja, said the “Unoccupied, isolated land can quickly be turned into grazing areas in the affected states,” as the herdsmen terror being witnessed across the country was a fallout of water scarcity.

Afenifere, while decrying Tinubu’s position in a statement titled: “We Reject Tinubu’s Miyetti Allah’s Choice,” issued by its spokesperson, Mr Yinka Odumakin, said it totally rejected this position, describing it as very backward in modern time and contrary to the consensus of all peace-loving Nigerians that what the country needed to solve the herdsmen siege on farmers was to have ranches.

Afenifere, however, said Tinubu was free to play his politics the way it suited him but warned that he should tread softly in playing games with the lives of Nigerians by making outlandish propositions on issues on which positions had been settled.

“The attention of Afenifere has been drawn to the statement credited to former Lagos governor, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that the herdsmen’s terror being witnessed across the country is a fallout of water scarcity and that the country should “convert unused land to grazing reserves.”

 

2019: Checkout the presidential candidates for seven major political parties

1. President Muhammadu Buhari, who polled 14, 842, 072 million votes, has been affirmed as APC’s candidate for the 2019 presidential elections. It came as no surprise after the current president was voted for as the party’s candidate.

2. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar today emerged the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP for the 2019 presidential election following a battle with the likes of Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Governor Aminu Tambuwal. Atiku came top ahead of 11 other aspirants at the end of the party’s presidential nomination convention. He polled about 1,500 more than the combined votes of all the other aspirants.

3. Former Minister of Education and co-founder of the Bring Back Our Girls group, Oby Ezekwesili’s dream is the presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, ACPN. The former Vice President of the World Bank emerged the presidential candidate of the party at the 2018 national convention of the party which held at Alexis hotel, Abuja. Ezekwesili stated that the time has come for Nigerians to change the old order of politicians that have been recycled in our political space with little or nothing to show as an achievement.

4. Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke emerged as the Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party for the 2019 general election. Duke polled 812 votes to defeat his close rival, former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana, who polled 611 votes at the party’s National Convention held at Old Parade Ground, Abuja.

5. The Zenith Labour Party on Sunday elected former governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, as its presidential candidate for the 2019 election. Mimiko was elected as a consensus candidate by members of the party in Abuja at its national convention. The presidential hopeful said that he would leverage on the party’s social democratic ideological orientation to convince Nigerians to work with him.

6. Motivational speaker, Fela Durotoye, would be vying for the presidential seat via Alliance for New Nigeria ANN’s platform. Just some days ago, the national chairman of the party, Emmanuel Dania, stated that Fela Durotoye was duly elected at the party’s presidential primary the previous week and remains the only recognised presidential candidate of the party for the 2019 poll.

7. Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu emerged last month as the presidential candidate of Young Progressive Party (YPP) during the party’s national convention and presidential primaries. Moghalu, a former United Nations official, emerged after other presidential candidates stepped down from the race, noting that his campaign would be designed to build Nigeria.

Following the outcome of the PDP presidential primary election that saw former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar emerge victorious, fellow contender and Senate President, Bukola Saraki has put out a congratulatory message.

Saraki, who was able to garner only 317 votes compared to Atiku who earned over 1,500 votes, has assured that he will work with the candidate to ensure he wins the presidential election come 2019.

The Senate President also thanked Governor Okowa for organising what he describes as a “free, fair and transparent” primary election and convention.

Past Lagos state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, current Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode and aspiring governor set to run under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Babajide Sanwoolu were pictured seated next to each other at the party’s National Convention last night.

Held at the Eagle Square, Abuja, the APC National Convention saw a gathering of over 7,000 delegates who affirmed President Muhammadu Buhari as the presidential candidate of the party in the 2019 general elections.

Just last weekend, Governor Ambode in a world press conference indirectly described Sanwoolu as “unfit to rule” Lagos state as they both battled for votes at the state primaries.

Ambode accused Sanwoolu of being arrested in the United States for spending fake dollars at a night club and also asserted that he is medically unfit with proof at Gbagada General Hospital.

Sanwoolu later emerged winner in the primary election and was congratulated by Ambode who immediately conceded defeat.
